Mobile Device Management from Dell KACE
As this article goes to press, the world is abuzz with excitement over the scheduled Apple media event expected to announce the release of the next generation iPad. On the Windows side of the world, there is palpable interest in the announcement from Microsoft that Windows 8 is on schedule for release in the summer of 2012.
Why are these two events noteworthy for Dell KACE customers? Whether you use an iOS, Android, Blackberry, or Microsoft based smartphone or tablet, it is clear that mobile computing has immutably changed the technology landscape. The mobile computing sector is now an undeniable force in both the consumer and corporate arena.
The “consumerization” of technology has moved many corporate IT departments to shift from being guardians against consumer technology in the enterprise to embracing it as champions. Consequently, many companies are implementing new technology and allowing employees to bring their own devices to work. This new trend of “bring your own device” is affectionately referred to by the acronym BYOD. Others are now procuring devices such as iPhones, iPads and Mac computers in enterprises where such investments were inconceivable just three years ago.
How is Dell KACE responding to this shift in the world of technology? We were excited to have Michael Dell attend our 2010 Dell KACE User Konference. Mr. Dell acknowledged the role mobile devices are having on our industry and indicated he wants Dell to be on the forefront of the tide of change. He challenged KACE to lead this initiative for Dell Corporation.
As a result of Michael Dell’s call to action, during the 2011 User Konference, KACE Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Marty Kacin, announced the development of the Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution from Dell KACE. This announcement and subsequent demonstration of the product was met with thunderous applause from the attendees.
The January 31, 2012 edition of Virtual Strategy Magazine quoted Mr. Kacin as saying: “The management of mobile devices will become a standard practice within the enterprise as the number of corporate and employee-owned devices continues to grow. Enterprises and educational institutions are now beginning to understand the nightmare of managing both corporate and personal mobile devices, as well as managing applications and network access. As classic device management penetrates the industry in greater discipline, a parallel effect of innovative new security measures will be applied to those same devices.”
Dell KACE is very excited about the Mobile Device Management solution being developed. It is urgent that someone delivers a solution to help manage the plethora of mobile devices exploding onto the scene. Dell KACE expects to empower IT departments around the globe with this powerful solution very soon!
